Every once in a while I come across a song that really moves me. I hear it and it makes me want to become a better person, strive to make more of life. That’s what I love about music. So much of what we hear today on the radio is about the beat or the rhythm and not about the words. When was the last time you listened to the words of that last pop hit you loved? Did you realize that none of it made any sense? or that is was a 17-year-old singing about the love of their life? I am not sure how that is possible.
Aside from being one of the most popular groups around currently, OneRepublic consistently produces songs that are not only pleasant to listen to, but have a message that produces provoking thought. And they did it again. Their latest album has a song not yet played on the radio and although very altruistic, it moved me to tears the first time I listened to it. So I am included the lyrics here for you to enjoy, but if you get the chance, please search out this song and listen to this in earnest, and reflect on how you can make the changes in your life to ba able to also say someday that you too Lived.
In less than four weeks I marry the man who I love more than anything in the world. I know to many in the world this still makes very little sense as only 52% of our countries population is in support of equal marriage rights, but I am not doing this for them, I am doing this for us. And I am doing this so I can one day say I lived.
I Lived: OneRepublic
Hoping you take that jump
But don’t fear the fall
Hope when the water rises
You built a wall
Hoping the crowd screams out
Screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs
You chose to stay
Hope that you fall in love
And it hurts so bad
The only way you can know
Is give it all you have
And I hope that you don’t suffer
But take the pain
Hope when the moment comes
You say……
I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second
That this world could give
I saw so many places
And things that I did
Of every broken bone
I swear I lived
Hope that you spend your days
But they all add up
And when that sun goes down
Hope you raise your cup
I wish that I could witness
All your joy and all your pain
But until my moment comes
I’ll say…
I swear I lived
